Make Your Nominations for the 2011 Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S.

For the third year in a row, Soliant is opening the nominations for the most beautiful hospital in the United States. Last year’s entries were absolutely stunning examples of awe-inspiring architecture and design. If you work in a  beautiful hospital or live in a town with a beautiful hospital, this is your chance to share it with the world!

Is beauty an important aspect for a hospital? You bet it is. Patients in beautiful, comfortable surroundings are happier and more relaxed, which may in turn lead to faster, better recovery.

Happy patients work out well for the hospital, too. Enhanced patient experience has increasingly become a deciding factor in the competitive world of medicine. A recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine says, “Patients themselves said that the nonclinical experience is twice as important as the clinical reputation in making hospital choices.”

What makes a hospital beautiful? Is it the style, the décor, the location, the history, or simply the feel when you walk in the door? Past votes have revealed some interesting choices. Some votes were cast for sheer eye-pleasing aesthetics, but last year’s number two hospital offered an extra edge – a healthy, organic menu packed with chosen to boost the immune system and aid recovery.

The hospitals nominated varied wildly in style, from the colorful whimsy of the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando to the rustic upscale lodge look of the Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend to the magnificent brick palace that makes up Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

One thing is perfectly clear – beauty is not measured by a single standard. Some hospitals bring the outside in with glass walls overlooking majestic sweeping vistas, or with botanical garden strolls within the walls. Others offer cozy amenities in patient rooms designed to make the hospital feel more like home, and still others feature imposing architecture that inspires confidence in nervous patients.

We’re inviting hospital employees, patients and the general public to submit picks for the most beautiful hospital in the U.S. With more than 5,000 facilities to choose from, and more than 10,000 votes cast in previous contests, we expect a lively competition this year. Do you know of a hospital worthy of the publicity and buzz created by the Soliant Health Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. Award? Submit your choice to find out…and don’t forget to come back in May to cast your vote!
