Indoor Season Is A Wrap!!

by Keith Moffatt on March 23, 2012

The indoor track season is finally over. I competed in my final meet, USA Indoor Track and Field Nationals, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I placed 3rd with a jump of 7 feet 5 inches. The person that came in 2nd place jumped the same height, and the 1st place person jumped 7 feet 6 inches. It was a close competition. The top two finishers qualified for the Indoor World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. I was a little upset that I just missed the team, but the good thing is that it gives me confidence heading into the outdoor season.

Outdoor season begins April 15th. My first competition will be the Mt. Sac Relays http://www.mtsacrelays.com/confirmation.html. Then, I have a rolling schedule which meets all around the world.

4/28/12 Drake Relays Des Moines, IA
5/1/12 Guadeloupe
5/5/12 Jamaica
5/11/12 Doha, Qatar
5/13/12 Urberlandia, Brazil
5/16/12 Sao Paulo, Brazil
5/16/12 Daegu, Korea
5/25/12 Taiwan
5/31/12 Rome, Italy
6/2/12 Prefontaine Classic Eugene, OR
6/7/12 Oslo, Norway
6/9/12 New York, NY
6/11/12 Zhukovsky, Russia
6/16/12 Dakar, Senegal
6/26/12 US Olympic Trials Eugene, OR

I’m sure this schedule looks like a long vacation, and I’m sure people will hate me after this post but it is just apart of my job :)  I will try to keep everyone updated with my results through emails and Facebook. Wish me luck on my journey to qualifying for London Olympics!!!

Wow, third place is just amazing–7’5″ is incredible–and it’s crazy to think that isn’t enough to get you to the Indoor Championships. But like you said, you are well-prepared to take to the outdoors. Your passport will be completely full by June! And it all starts with the Drake Relays in Iowa (Des Moines may seem like humble beginnings compared to Doha and Rome). I hope you get to enjoy some of these amazing destinations. And I also hope you’re not stuck in coach on your flight to Korea (where do you put your legs?!). Safe travels and GOOD LUCK!

Congratulations for coming in 3rd place at the USA Indoor Track and Field Nationals! That’s amazing…especially since you technically tied for 2nd! We are so proud of you and love hearing about your journey! BTW – I’ll be in the Atlanta office April 9-13… and I have a list of things I want to pick your brain about while I’m in town!
